Our iGCSE English course is designed as a two-year rolling programme, meaning students can join in either Year 10 or Year 11 and still access the full curriculum and skills needed for success. Because the course is taught in mixed Year 10 and Year 11 groups, lessons are carefully structured so that learners at different stages can progress together while focusing on their own level of development and exam preparation. During a student’s first year on the course, the focus is on exposure, exploration, and building strong foundations. Learners are introduced to a wide range of fiction and non-fiction texts while developing the core reading and writing skills required for IGCSE English. Lessons focus on analysing language, structure, and writer’s methods, alongside developing transactional, descriptive, and narrative writing. Students gradually build confidence in planning responses, selecting evidence, structuring ideas clearly, and expressing themselves with increasing accuracy and sophistication. During the second year of the programme, students revisit and refine these same skills with a much sharper focus on examination success. Learners work more closely with the specific texts, question styles, and exam techniques required for their examination year, allowing them to deepen their understanding and improve the precision of their written responses. Greater emphasis is placed on independent interpretation, comparison of texts, timed practice, and refining analytical and creative writing skills so students feel fully prepared and confident approaching their final IGCSE examinations. This cyclical approach ensures that no matter when a student joins the course, they benefit from both broad exposure to the curriculum and focused preparation for exam success.
